And player-to-player trades are bad for everyone else: Risk of scam. Non-global market, means supply & demand might never find an equilibrium point. Non-global market means arbitrageurs (people who flip items) will hurt the market, rather than help it reach equilibrium. Less stability, especially for low ticket items.
Gem purchases are really split into two categories, Utility stuff and Skins. Personally, the first item I tell everyone to buy is the Copper fed salvage-o-matic. It works as an infinite salvage device for junk, blue and green unidentified gear and other stuff. It is arguably the best purchase in the game.

To my understanding items which can't be sold can still be mystic forged. Depending on the rarity you could just do that, given you would have destroyed them anyway. thanks! i suppose i'll be making a journey to the forge. most of the no sell items are also not salvagable. You can however use them in the mystic forge.
